The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), in coordination with UK’s Centre for Political and Diplomatic Studies (CPDS), and Foreign Service Institute (FSI), conducted the training programs on Negotiation Skills (12-13 November 2018) and the International Policy and Tradecraft skills (16, 19-20 November 2018) for the Department’s Foreign Service Personnel.
Thirty-eight (38) Officers and Staff from various DFA offices participated in the training programs, which included lectures, discussions, case studies and practical exercises. Topics included the typology and strategies of negotiation, mediation, conflict resolution, simulation exercises on Bilateral and Multilateral negotiations, Influence mapping, and political reporting.
Dr. John Hemery Obe, the founder and Chairman of CPDS, retired Ambassador Jean Dunn PSM, Director for Indo-Pacific of CPDS Australia, and retired Ambassador Dr. Ruth Adler, former senior career officer with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, were the training programme’s resource persons.
The participants expressed their appreciation for the interactive approach, as well as the in-depth exchanges of knowledge and experiences among participants and resource persons.
