Thanks to the increase in appropriations and new budgetary items introduced by Congress in this year’s budget of the Foreign Service Institute (FSI), the Foreign Language Programs run by the Carlos P. Romulo School of Diplomacy have been expanded to include special and additional foreign language courses, scholarships, and cultural activities that aim to further develop the language proficiency skills of the personnel of both FSI and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
This was the topic in the FSI Scholarship Roadshow hosted by the Scholarship Programs Section, together with Language Programs Section and International Programs and e-Learning Section, on 19 April 2018 at the Institute.
Under this project, various training opportunities such as international and local foreign language scholarship programs, special language courses, language translation and interpretation programs, and online language learning courses will be offered to qualified DFA and FSI personnel. These courses will run from April to December 2018.
FSI and DFA contractual personnel who have been in service for less than 2 years service are exempted from the provisions of General Rules on Eligibility emboddied in Section 7, No. 2, of DFA Department Order 11-2014. This will provide them the opportunity to apply for scholarships in both local and international institutions as well as slots for online and special language courses under the 2018 Foreign Language Scholarships.
Interested personnel may coordinate with the DFA Human Resource Management Office (HRMO) on how to qualify to any of the programs. For further inquiries, please contact Ms. Dhang Acosta or Ms. Esmie Perez of the FSI Scholarship Programs Section at (02) 834-4637 and (02) 834-3964.
