CIRSS Participates in the 30th Asia-Pacific Roundtable in Kuala Lumpur

Ms. Jemimah Joanne C. Villaruel and Ms. Andrea Kristine G. Molina, Foreign Affairs Research Specialists of the Foreign Service Institute’s Center for International Relations and Strategic Studies (CIRSS), participated in the 30th Asia-Pacific Roundtable (APR@30) held at the Hilton Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 30 May-1 June 2016.
The APR is an annual forum on political, security, and economic issues in the Asia-Pacific organized by the Institute of Strategic and International Studies Malaysia (ISIS Malaysia) on behalf of the ASEAN-Institutes of Strategic and International Studies (ASEAN-ISIS), a network of Southeast Asia’s leading think tanks. Now in its 30th year, the APR is recognized as one of the top 20 security-related Track 2 conferences globally, featuring speakers and moderators from different countries.
With the theme “Cooperation and Contestation in a Changing Regional Landscape,” APR@30 touched upon a wide range of issues affecting the security, stability, and prosperity in the very dynamic Asia-Pacific region and the world as a whole. Among the issues discussed were the regional security in the Asia-Pacific, ASEAN Community, strategic developments in different regions around the world, violent extremism, climate change, energy security, displacement and refugee crisis, and the security and stability in the South China Sea. The conference was attended by ministers, diplomats, policymakers, scholars, opinion leaders, researchers, business executives, and journalists.
