FSI attends CHED’s conference on gender equality in higher education

The Commission on Higher Education convened the 4th Higher Education Summit on Gender Issues with the theme “ASEAN Integration: Challenges and Opportunities for Promoting Gender Equality in Higher Education.”

About 500 presidents and other top ranking administrators of different State universities and colleges and selected private higher educational institutions from the Philippines and other ASEAN member states attended the event held on January 27 to 28, 2016 at the Philippine International Convention Center. The Institute was represented by Ms. Rowena Villanueva, Board Secretary and Head of the Institutional Linkages Unit.

The keynote address of Ambassador Rosario G. Manalo highlighted the roles of Philippine women in order for the Philippines to attain its status in the ASEAN. She also reiterated the message of Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert F. Del Rosario during the Philippine celebration of the ASEAN Community formation: “With the advent of the ASEAN Community, we need to be thinking, preparing, and acting in terms of being part of a region, of a community of countries. We are no longer just Filipino citizens, we are at the same time also citizens of ASEAN. What is clear is that the establishment of the ASEAN Community entails more work for us. And when I say ‘us,’ I do not only mean government representatives and those from ASEAN-related organizations who attend ASEAN meetings.”
