Mr. Prince Philip Nagpala II, Training Specialist at the Carlos P. Romulo School of Diplomacy of the Foreign Service Institute (FSI), presented his paper “The ASEAN Way Meets ASEAN Political-Security Community” during the 1st International Conference on ASEAN Studies 2015 hosted by Pridi Banomyong International College, Thammasat University, in Bangkok, Thailand, on 3-4 October 2015.

With the theme “Emerging ASEAN Community 2015,” the conference highlighted studies and researches focused on the ASEAN Community Pillars: 1) political-security community, 2) economic community, and 3) socio-cultural community.

Mr. Nagpala’s presentation identified areas of improvement and described the limits of the current way of ASEAN cooperation amid a changing security terrain in the region. He discussed the relevance of the ASEAN Way in resolving maritime disputes on the South China Sea and in the establishment of the ASEAN Political-Security Community.

The conference was participated by representatives from the academe, government, and scholars all over the ASEAN member-states.
