The Foreign Service Institute conducted a Seminar on Human-Rights Based Approach to Combat Human Trafficking. The seminar ran from 10 to 15 of September 2014 at the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) as was participated by 15 DFA personnel.
FSI sought the expertise of various practitioners in the field to give lectures on the essential concepts that would be needed by the participants. Among the speakers were Mr. Jerome Alcantara, Deputy Executive Director of Blas Ople Center for Policy; Mr. Joel Peralta, Principal Assistant of OUMWA; Prosecutor Jedrek C. Ng, Executive Officer of the Training Division of Inter-Agency Council against Trafficking and; Mr. Robert Larga, the Director of Licensing and Regulation Office Philippine Overseas Employment Administration.
The seminar recognized the need of educating government personnel duty-bound to protect nationals from offenses against human rights. It covers the general definition of human trafficking and its operations, emphasizes the protection of migrants against human trafficking, and the different ways to handle victims.
