The Foreign Service Institute formally launched the Alumni Association of the Foreign Service Institute (AAFSI) in a simple ceremony at the Carlos P. Romulo Library on 17 July 2014.

The AAFSI aims to organize graduates of the FSI’s training courses, former interns, lecturers, and former and current employees to work with the Institute on potential initiatives.

Notable alumni attended the launch including Mr. Marciano R. de Borja, Senior Special Assistant at the Office of the Undersecretary for Civilian Security and Consular Concerns, and Mr. Ronald M. Joves, Acting Director of the Honorary Consuls and Service Attaches Division, who shared their thoughts and memories of their time with the Institute and why they joined the Alumni Association and also gave words of inspirations for fellow alumni to join the AAFSI.

In spite of the stormy weather, the launch of the AAFSI was well-attended by alumni who are now with the Department of Foreign Affairs and by the officers and staff of the Institute.

Mr. Carlos Sorreta, FSI Director, welcomed the participants, while Ms. Rowena Villanueva, Acting President of the AAFSI, introduced the speakers. Mr. Julio S. Amador III, FSI Assistant Director, gave the closing remarks.
